Mocha Frosting

Growing up at our house, birthdays meant one thing: chocolate cake with mocha frosting!

Homemade frosting is so easy to make and it’s always a show stopper. You’ll never buy the canned stuff again!

Mocha Frosting
(Original recipe from Forum Feasts)

Ingredients:
6 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
6 Tbsp Hot Coffee
6 Tbsp Butter. Softened
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
3-4 Cups Confectioners’ Sugar

Directions:
Combine the coca powder and hot coffee in a mixing bowl. Add softened butter and vanilla extract and beat until smooth.

Gradually add the sugar until you reach your desired consistency. Some family members religiously use only 3 cups of confectioners’ sugar, but I tend to use more than that for a lighter, fluffier frosting.

Notes/Substitutions:  This recipe makes plenty to ice two dozen cupcakes, or a 2-layer 8” round cake. Traditionally at our house, we use the old standby combo of chocolate cake with mocha frosting for (nearly) everyone’s birthday, but this frosting is also delicious on yellow cake… or straight off a spoon… oh man, this is some good stuff.
